GRANITE FALLS - Bina Eggers Townsend, 86, of Granite Falls, passed away Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at her residence. She was born Jan. 7, 1923, in Watauga County to the late George and Lona Hollars Eggers. Mrs. Townsend also was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Dick Townsend; her son, Jack Townsend; her son-in-law, Gordon Helms; four brothers; and one sister. Mrs. Townsend was a member of Harris Chapel Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughters, Reba Helms and Martha Annas and her husband, Jerry, all of Granite Falls; seven grandchildren, Melissa Phillips and husband, Eldridge, Susan Wilson and husband, Gwyn, Stephanie Tramble and husband, Andy, Kim Bumgarner and husband, Warren, Tammy Townsend, Jamye Wilson and husband, Adam, and Steven Annas; nine great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Charlene Townsend; brothers, Thomas Eggers of Granite Falls, Gurney Eggers of Jacksboro, Tenn., and Charles Eggers of Boone; and four sisters, Hazel Ashley and Ruth Cooke, both of Boone, Lucy Warren of Hudson and Joanne Aldridge of Lafillette, Tenn. A graveside service will be held at 4:30 p.m. today, Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, in Sunrise Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Edd Warren officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. at Bass-Smith Granite Funeral Service. Serving as pallbearers will be Steven Annas, Ryan Wilson, Cody Phillips, Gwyn Wilson, Adam Wilson and Andy Tramble.
